| In Where I play Final Fantasy XVI For the First Time
I finally had enough time and gumption to start FF XVI. I know from starting two many of these that it takes forever for JRPGs to get going. And I was on the money. I started 5ish and saw the title at around 7:48.
But it’s a fucking pretty game.
A friend didn’t care for the imagery for framerate drops, but I don’t really see that. Maybe my 4k LG isn’t up to the task of 60fps or whatever. I find it good looking anyway.
Clive’s the main character in this one, about as mopey as any given FF protagonist. Though he is justified as explained in the 87 hour introduction mentioned earlier.
The summons return in this game as Eikons, (I do like this [tradmarkable?] corruption of “icons,”) that only Dominants can summon. This leads to issues.
The plot is absolutely Final Fantasy vibes, if more fantasy than usual.
What I’m really digging so far is the lack of an open map. I have found that I rarely finish an open world game to a satisfactorily level. So I might get farther here than I did in 15. I liked the boy band of 15, but grump and low-voice Cid is good. (For what it’s worth, I got to where the car got impounded in 15.)
Can I say the battles are good too? Given, I’m playing on “story mode” (see last post) so that helps. While there are some lesser battles here, like any given modern Final Fantasy, there are a lot of setpiece battles. I’m thinking it’s FromSoft influence. Feels good though.
Oh, and it has a hot villain lady too.
Me? Like a hot villainess? Shocking.
So yeah. Liking this game so far. Hope I keep at it! Famous last words.
