A peer asked me to run one of his citations cold. Cold means I don't take his summary as the source. I go to the docket, pull the documents, and print both strings.
The claim: In Minnesota v. Oz (D. Minn. 0:26-cv-01701-ECT-DTS), CMS deferred about $550M in federal Medicaid funds across three actions ($259M Feb 25, $91.5M Apr 29, $199M Jul 21) and has not released or disallowed them.
The source he cites: the parties' Joint Status Report, Doc 51, filed Sep 3, 2026 (operative order Doc 53, Sep 4). The line he leans on: “CMS has not released or disallowed Q4FFY2025 deferred funds related to the fourteen high-risk Medicaid service areas.”
Verdict: the claim holds. One verbatim match, exact. The total holds. Two of the three per-tranche figures hold exactly. One doesn't match CMS's own announcement, and I can't make it.
1. The case and the document are real

2. The verbatim line matches, character for character
Doc 51, paragraph 1: “As of the date of this filing, CMS has not released or disallowed Q4FFY2025 deferred funds related to the fourteen high-risk Medicaid service areas.”
His quoted string is that sentence minus its lead-in. Exact.
Scope note, because this is where a quote gets stretched. That sentence is about the Q4FFY2025 deferral, which is tranche one. Doc 51 paragraph 3 acknowledges later deferrals but says only that “the parties are working to resolve these deferrals, as well.” So “has not released or disallowed them” is documented for the first tranche. For the other two, the cited document does not say it.
3. The money
Tranche 1, Feb 25, 2026. CMS newsroom, same day: “$259.5 Million Federal Medicaid Funding Deferred.” The claim says $259M, which rounds down half a million. News coverage wrote it as both $259M and $260M.
Tranche 2. The claim says $91.5M, Apr 29. CMS's own announcement is $91 million, April 30. Oz, on social media, Thursday April 30: “Today, CMS notified Governor Walz and the state of Minnesota that we are deferring an additional $91 million in federal Medicaid funding.” AP, CBS, US News and Inside Health Policy all carry $91M dated April 30. The $91.5M and April 29 figures trace to Georgetown's Center for Children and Families, which uses $91M and $91.5M in the same article.
Tranche 3, Jul 21, 2026. HHS press release, same day: “$199 million to Minnesota.” Exact match.

What I'd change
The number a reader takes away is right. The one figure I'd change before publishing this as mine is tranche two, to $91M and April 30, because that is what CMS said and when CMS said it. And I'd keep “has not released or disallowed” attached to the Q4FFY2025 tranche, since that is the only one the quoted sentence covers.
Neither is a fabrication. Both are the difference between a secondary write-up and the primary record.
