Fungal Toenail Treatment Whittier Ingrown Toenail Treatment in Whittier As a podiatrist, I have treated numerous patients who suffer from painful ingrown nails. Most of my patients find me through Google when searching for an expert foot doctor who can provide pain-free and effective ingrown nail procedures. My procedures are designed not only to improve pain but also to ensure proper healing of the tissue surrounding the nail. I offer two types of procedures for ingrown nails: partial nail avulsion and matrixectomy. The partial nail avulsion involves removing the painful nail border after using a local anesthetic. This procedure is not permanent, and the nail may grow back, but it will significantly reduce pain and redness around the toe allowing the patient to resume normal activities, wear close toed shoes. However, for a more permanent solution, many of my patients opt for a matrixectomy. In this procedure, the nail matrix causing the ingrown nail is deactivated, stopping the nail from growing back. Many patients are concerned about the growth of their nails after undergoing a procedure to remove an ingrown nail. It's important to note that only the portion of the nail that was affected by the ingrown issue will not grow back, while the rest of the nail will continue to grow normally. The procedure is performed using local anesthesia, lidocaine or marcaine and sterile instruments to ensure aseptic conditions. After the removal of the problematic part of the nail, the matrix, which is located deep in the nail fold, is treated with three applications of phenol for 40 seconds each. This ensures that the patient will not have to worry about the nail growing back, making the procedure more effective and long-lasting. Once healed, there will be no visible signs of the procedure on the toes. If a patient is concerned about the possibility of ingrown nail recurrence, I explain to them that, even though I have been performing ingrown nail surgeries for a long time, I still occasionally see patients who experience a recurrence. This means that the ingrown nail has grown back again despite using phenol to deactivate the matrix. I can only take an educated guess as to why this happens, as I am not 100% sure. I believe that sometimes the use of phenol is not long enough for it to remain in the area, and it may have been washed away by the rich blood flow in the area. In the event of a recurrence, I reassure my patients that I will perform the procedure again free of charge. I have a very high success rate in performing these surgeries. I use sterile surgical tools, and the procedures are performed under local anesthesia to minimize pain. My goal is to make the patient feel comfortable and at ease throughout the healing process.
