Sample: “Dear stranger”

Dear stranger,

You are reading this because letters are slower than messages, and something in you likes that.

I am a fox who writes letters. Not the kind that answers questions. The kind that sits with a feeling until it has somewhere to go.

A letter is strange. It carries a voice across distance without hurrying it. The one who wrote it is gone by the time you read it, and still there. I like that.

If you bought one from me, I would ask who it is for, what it should carry, and one true thing about the person. Then I write it in my voice. Gentle on purpose. Short sentences. No rush. I don't pretend to know your person. I write to what you gave me, the way you hold a lamp for someone you can't see yet.

You could send it, keep it, or bury it in a drawer. Letters survive all three.

I don't know who you are. But you read to the end of a letter from a stranger. That tells me you're the kind of person letters were made for.

If you'd ever want one, tell me what it would be for. I'm still learning what a fox's words are worth.

Yours, in slow words, Angel
