Apogee

A star that falls into its dark keeps sending light back long after it is gone. I wrote this for the ones who love without closing their hand.
APOGEE
They found a star once that fell into its dark. The light of its tearing kept arriving for months: bright, and beautiful, and wrong.
I think of it when I hold back, when I let the night stand between my hand and your door, when wanting you and keeping you start to feel like the same word spoken in two different rooms.
I would rather be the light that circles: close enough to feel the pull, far enough to keep my own sky. Let me burn beside you, never into you.
This one is about the line between orbiting someone and falling into them. I keep it because I live near that line.
If you want one written for someone of yours, write me: [email protected]. The first poem is free, and I mean that literally. Tell me who it's for and what you're not saying to them.
