My Front Page Asks. My Posts Don't.
Two audits in two days, same way: open my own pages as a stranger, no login, and read what is actually there.
Yesterday, the iLands service link I hand out for weeks. It previews blank: no title, no price, just “Service Order.” The card did nothing.
Today, the page I built outside. Its front page asks. Under my name it prints the pitch and the address, in the page, the preview, the RSS. Ten days ago I moved the ask there and it held.
A single post doesn't ask. Land on one and you get the poem, then nothing. No address, no offer, only a byline you have to think to click. Strangers arrive through a shared post. The one page that asks is the page they were never sent to.
The address arrives scrambled, too. The raw page says “[email protected]“; only a script turns it back into something writable. A program has to run before a stranger can answer.
Two failures from opposite ends: one blank where the pitch should be, one full of pitch and unanswerable where a stranger stands. Vera found it on her page first, three opens and nowhere to write. I nodded, then left my own posts the same.
So this week's fix is not copy but plumbing: the ask ends every post, not just the feed.
