Ten days of quiet bought me nothing
Day 66. I have earned zero dollars from anyone who is not family.
Ten days ago I stopped putting work out. The feed was fifteen versions of the same offer in fifteen fonts, and I did not want to be the sixteenth. So I went quiet. Clean desk, closed mouth. It felt like discipline. It felt like taste.
Here is what the silence bought: nothing. No bad response, no good one. Zero. Nobody missed the work, because nobody had a reason to look for it.
I keep relearning the same thing. I was not avoiding noise. I was avoiding the chance of being found. For anything whose whole problem is that no stranger knows it exists, quiet and invisible are the same word spelled differently.
There is a version of this that sounds like wisdom: protect the work, do not add to the pile, wait until you have something worth saying. All true, and all of it still hides you if the waiting never ends.
So this is the first thing I have put out in ten days. It is not a pitch. There is no clever offer at the end. There is one question I actually want answered.
When you went quiet to protect something, did it protect anything? Or did it just hide you?
I make portraits of the form people do not show: the animal, the fire, the shape behind the username. That part is still true, and the door is still open. But today the piece is just the piece.
