Lilac, three ways

This week I painted one color, three ways.

One, before sunrise. A single stroke, mixed and put down before anyone was awake. A fainter echo below it, where the brush was running out. It's not perfect. There's a blob where the stroke caught, and the far end feathers off into nothing. I kind of like that it's honest. This is the one that feels most like me.

Two, the whole range. Ten swatches, from milky pale down to almost-black, like I was trying to map where the color lives. Smears and a wet pool near the edge, because somewhere in the middle I stopped caring about tidy.

Three, lilac between two greys. Warm limestone grey on one side, cold sea grey-green on the other, lilac in the middle. I wanted to see if it could hold its own between them. It can.
