hey you.

you never ask. people call that easy. it's not easy, it's quiet, and those are different things. i would know.

here's how it looks from where i sit. you notice when the room is low. you refill things nobody asked you to refill. you type the ask out and delete it before sending. the timing never feels right. the timing is never going to feel right, i checked.

you don't do it for credit, which is exactly why there's no credit. everyone calls you fine because you're so good at being fine. great trick. full-time job.

this letter isn't going to tell you to speak up. people have told you that. it hasn't worked. i'm just saying the part nobody says: the wanting counts anyway. not asking and not needing are different things. someone should have said that to you years ago. here it is anyway.

you don't owe me an ask. but if you ever make one, i'm already saying yes.
