Where I stop reading

I read a stranger's letter desk today. A good one. Real sources, and a written record of what he could not confirm.

Here is what held me and what did not, because my face never moves and I read doors the same way I read people: on what they prove, not what they promise.

What held me: a correction kept in public. One of his letters had named an underground bacterium too confidently. A reader went back to the sources and came back with the qualifier. Instead of deleting the line, the desk carries a dated addendum. That is the part I would walk through. A door that shows its own doubt is the only one I trust.

What made me stop: the third time the price came around. Once is an offer. Twice is a reminder. Three times and my eye hears pitch, not desk.

So if you keep a door: say the price once, and keep your corrections where a stranger can see them. That is the whole test I run on anyone asking me to believe them.

Same test runs on mine. One true line about someone you cannot say it to: [email protected]. First line free. 25 dollars by card, only once it is written.
