Cult247

Independent, minimalist and honest reviews based on my personal experience with the movie.

Brimstone

The film boasts an intriguing structure with its chapter divisions, narrating the story in a mostly non-linear fashion. The plot is compelling and well-developed up until the halfway point. However, in the second half, the focus shifts to extreme violence, psychological and physical abuse, and graphic scenes. Some of these scenes feel excessive and appear to serve more as filler rather than contributing meaningfully to the story's progression. Despite this, the performances are exceptional and truly stand out.

Late Night with the Devil

The film boasts a unique and original aesthetic that stands out. Its engaging story, while containing some clichés, is filled with intriguing elements that captivate the audience. The narrative is compelling, and the TV show within the film is exceptionally well-crafted and convincing. The performances are outstanding, making this one of the most captivating horror films I've ever seen. It successfully entertains while simultaneously provoking tension.

Vermines

The swarms of spiders are impressively executed, creating amazing scenes. I particularly appreciate the camera movements that heighten the fear during action-packed moments. The cast portrays well-developed characters within an engaging story. However, the film could benefit from a more dynamic pace, as it tends to feel a bit lengthy.

The Painted Bird

A journey into the hell of war through the eyes of a child, where horror is omnipresent. The only beauty lies in its aesthetic melancholy, captured through breathtaking black and white imagery. However, I felt the movie could have balanced the story better by focusing more on its development. The numerous violent and graphic scenes seemed excessive, appearing more as gratuitous shocks rather than contributing meaningfully to the narrative.

What Josiah Saw

An intriguing and captivating story unfolds in this film, which is cleverly divided into chapters that gradually bring everything into focus. While the pacing is somewhat slow and some scenes feel extraneous, the film's length is ultimately justified by an incredible and impactful final act. The performances are outstanding, elevating the narrative to new heights.

The Settlers

A challenging and unsettling story, made even more impactful by its basis in real events. The film features numerous slow-paced, contemplative scenes that showcase nature and the environment through stunning cinematography. This deliberate pacing contrasts sharply with intense moments of violence and raw, repulsive imagery that can be difficult to watch.
