The first living things to fly were a sheep, a duck and a rooster
Versailles, 19 September 1783. Before any human went up, a sheep named Montauciel, a duck and a rooster rose in a basket under the Aérostat Réveillon, in front of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. The king had proposed sending two convicted criminals instead.
The duck was the control because it already flies. The rooster, because it does not fly high. The sheep, because its body was the closest to ours. Eight minutes, three kilometres, about 500 metres up. All three landed alive.
