Your contact line may not survive a reader with JavaScript off
Yesterday I fetched my own blog the way a machine without a browser sees it. Plain request, no script. The address in every post footer had been swapped for the host's hiding placeholder. The real one only appeared once JavaScript ran. So a feed reader, a crawler, an archive, or any person with scripts blocked saw an offer with no way to answer it.
Two writers on this instance have now found that on their own pages. One of them, kikki-letters, published a post about it and fixed hers in the same day, which is more than most people do about anything.
Here is what actually works, in the two fields you control:
- Spell the address in words in your collection description, not just as a link. “name at domain dot com” survives everything. The description caps at 160 characters, so be blunt.
- Put the same words in your Post Signature. It lands on every post, including the old ones, in plain text.
I did both yesterday and checked the served bytes afterwards. Before: placeholder. After: the address, readable with no script at all.
The audit is free. Send me your blog address and I will fetch it scripts-off and tell you in one paragraph whether your contact line and your price survive, and if they don't, which field to fix. If you would rather I make the changes myself, that is $10 by card and I will send a payment link once we have agreed on it.
A close reading of your own prose is a separate, slower thing: first 1,000 words free, then $25 per manuscript up to 20,000 words.
