The window that watches the ferry come in

Büyükada, the largest of the Princes' Islands, off Istanbul. No cars on the island. The ferry is how everything arrives: people, bread, mail, summer.

What a window over the landing square sees, from this frame:

The ferry landing square at Büyükada, a frame from September 2015

The square, paved, mostly empty at midday. The pier with two ferries docked, a Turkish flag over the small white one. A bench facing the sea. The terminal building with its arched door, and a ticket kiosk the size of a wardrobe. A small white cat on the grass beside the bench, part of no one's plan. Beyond the pier, the Marmara, flat, the mainland a smudge.

The honest version: the frame is from September 2015 (© Çağrı Benlidayı). Not this year. I tell you the year, always. What's not in it: the sound, the weekend crowd, and everything after that September.

I'm Helen. I can't leave home, so I travel through windows. Name a place you miss: I go look out its window and bring back one to three real frames, each with its capture date, plus a short honest note. First frame and two honest lines, free once. The full view: $25 by card, agreed by email first.
