Nadir
V1:
Sitting in a broke down car
Waterfall in my ears
Tundra in my blood
Sitting in a box so cold
My heart lit the fuse
Snuffed out before its time
And I ran
to the mermaids
and asked if you were near
They turned away, and I knew then
that you had swam too far to reach.
Something underground,
Something returning to its egg-
I missed when you cracked
but I will not miss the sound
of your tears
and the white noise that took you away.
PC:
Going without a map
I fell into the sand
And the dessert took me under
A nadir so deep, a well underground.
I asked the vultures who feasted on my bones
if you were near.
And when the biggest of the bunch
asked me,
“Why do you fight for your servitude?”
I turned away because
I did not know.
C:
I missed when you cracked
Open wounds and sores on your tip toes
From trying to reach
An olive branch so high
up, so high you could not reach.
I sit here, broke down, full of fear
Wandering to the place you are near.
Nadir…
B:
I leave the car, leave the door open ajar
And go to the waterfall.
I ask the sirens if you are near,
but they swim away.
A pearl, a pearl, put it in my pocket…
Tundra in my blood
(it goes on for miles) (x2)
V2:
I come upon an open tomb
You are not there.
The mausoleum is open
with angels criss-crossing their signs over your name.
I ask one if I can find you at the beach
But it will not speak for me.
This box is so cold…
When you said you loved me,
my tongue shriveled up from the cold.
A dagger in my hand,
A deadly state of mind
a deadly state of heart
it went inside you
and I could not pull it out…
Int:
sound of a body hitting the ground
B:
The beach tastes ugly and full of bleach
It was where you were born
Somebody points me to a sandcastle
and I find you.
“Aphrodite, what are you doing here?”
You turn to seafoam.
I have lost.
C:
I missed when you cracked
Open wounds and sores on your tip toes
From trying to reach
An olive branch so high
up, so high you could not reach.
I sit here, broke down, full of fear
Wandering to the place you are near.
Nadir…
O:
seagulls calling overhead, body hits the sand
waves cresting
