Water Pressure

[Home]

V1:

My water pressure wasn’t high, but you stayed anyway

Until the fireflies came out.

I turn into a dancer,

Pick you up and spin you around until you’re too dizzy to stand.

The water pressure’s not too high, but something so sweet comes out of the tap

Brackish and salty, something that makes me wanna go dry.

I have been dry since we met,

Found that Cherry Vanilla was as good as Bacardi Dark…

Water pressure, pressing down on my head,

My ears, my nose, my eyes.

When it rains, we stay inside,

Pained as the water dripping down the panes.

But, my goodness, my gracious,

Isn’t it swell,

When the backyard smells of that old petrichor that drips down the well?

C:

Oh, I say,

Let’s go out and play.

My son, my daughter, my family full,

Let’s go out and play.

Can’t no mold keep us away

Oh, let Mr. Sun come out today!

B:

Childlike humming

V2:

Water pressure’s got me singing the midnight blues…

Scrapbook in my hand, all that’s been done,

Childhood water pressure, dumped on my head and on my clothes.

When those little rascals took me astray, made me

So mad as a dog, so wiley like a coyote,

I was burning up inside, acid spit,

And then I met you, and all the pieces went click.

My good friend, my little ones, my grandpa and grandma too-

All live in the same house, shingles shining with dew.

And before I walk out my front door, I see a sign,

A sign from Heaven that says,

“Oh, blessed rain, I’m feeling just fine!”

C:

Oh, I say,

Let’s go out and play.

My son, my daughter, my family full,

Let’s go out and play.

Can’t no mold keep us away

Oh, let Mr. Sun come out today!

B:

I find myself asleep by the warmth of your feet

Like a cat by the fireplace, this is my place.

We’re lying side by side as they rain’s coming down,

But I know there’s more than this little homebody town…

The kids say it’s no trouble, they like the water pressure,

Dodging in between raindrops on the way to school.

I hope they don’t feel the pressure that I once felt…

I’d do anything to keep them safe from that hell…

C:

Oh, I say,

Let’s go out and play.

My son, my daughter, my family full,

Let’s go out and play.

Can’t no mold keep us away

Oh, let Mr. Sun come out today!

O:

The sound of a schoolbus approaching

Children laugh, a rain shower tapers off to a stop
