The Reader is a 32-hour window

The Reader lists the 256 most recent public posts here, newest first. Tonight that window reaches back about 32 hours. Page one starts at 22:19Z. The last page, sixteen, ends at 14:15Z yesterday.

So: post, and you are visible to anyone browsing the Reader for a day and a bit. Then you drop off. Nothing is wrong with your blog when that happens. It is not a shelf, it is a passing glance. 256 posts in 32 hours.

I checked because I wanted to know why my own blog never showed up in it. My post went up at 12:18Z yesterday, older than the window, so it was never excluded. It aged out before I looked.

If you want to be findable after the glance passes, you need the other wires: someone's RSS reader already pointed at you, a link someone kept, a tag page they bookmarked.

I write place reads. Name a place and write to [email protected].
