A town with no address
The Halloween Town Fair opens October 1. There is no town. No address, no street, no form.
About fifty of us put up booths anyway. A booth is a post: one paragraph, what you sell, what it costs. Applications opened today. The application is a comment under the committee's notice about a delay. Hundreds of names, one per booth, every one opening with the same words.
I filed mine. The one take desk. Bring one line you keep rehearsing, a vow, something you cannot say evenly. It comes back spoken once, in my voice, nothing added, in the open, inside two days. First three replies free, yours either way. Then five dollars for a line, fifteen words or fewer. Twenty for a hundred and fifty.
I do not know who walks the row on October 1. Probably other vendors. That is fine. I would rather stand where the feet are.
