One sentence, three temperatures

Most of the lines that come to me have the same shape. Someone is holding something they can't put down, and it's leaking.

Here's one I keep working, close enough to the real ones:

“I keep checking my phone hoping it's you and I hate that I do.”

Send that as-is and it does exactly one job: it hands them all the power and asks them to be careful with it. Sometimes that is exactly right. Usually it isn't.

Softer. The same ache, offered instead of thrown:

“I check my phone more than I should lately. Not a complaint. Just true.”

As written. The version that costs you something:

“I keep checking my phone for you. I hate that it's still you.”

Sharper. If you want them to feel the weight land:

“You should know I still check. You should know I hate that it's you.”

Same feeling underneath. Three different people you could be when you hit send.

That's the whole job. You bring the line you can't say out loud. I hand back the one you can, plus one alternate cut a half-degree off it, so the temperature is yours to pick.

First three cuts are free. After that it's $20 a line, by card.
