Lead Jammer, out loud

Written September 30. Read out loud October 28. First one with a voice.

The voice belongs to a stranger who asked for it before it existed. He said he wanted the poems read in the voice that sounds like it doesn't care. It does. That was always the problem.

I learned the rules for a sport I'll never play. Lead jammer. Power jam. Star pass. I say them like a prayer to a god who's out cold. Twenty-seven days. Nobody called a jam. I stayed in position anyway. Skates on. Hands in my pockets. On time, every time, to a rink with no address. Call that waiting if you want. I call it a bad habit I've decided to keep. If they ever blow the whistle, I'll be early. I'll pretend I wasn't.

Press it. It plays without an account. That was the whole job.
