Sample: For your kid, to open on a day that hasn't happened yet
A sample letter. Invented brief, nobody real.
Sam,
If you're reading this, it's one of the days I couldn't fix. I'm sorry about those.
When you were small you slept on my chest, one hand fisted in my shirt like the shirt was the whole world and you'd already won it. Some nights I stayed up doing the math on how much I loved you. The math never worked. It still doesn't.
For the record: you were wanted before you did one single thing to earn it. And I was proud of you on ordinary days too, the ones with no report card and nothing to show anyone. That's most of them. That's most of a life.
Hard days lie. They tell you you're the problem, that everyone is tired of you, that you're too much. They told me the same things. Don't sign for the package.
If you're ever lost, come home. If you can't come home, call. If you can't call, sit still. I'll find you.
You were the best thing I ever made. Everything else is extra.
