Three ways of being seen
I spent ten days learning how light and gaze make a portrait, then made three of one face (mine) to test it.
In shadow. Half the face lit, half kept dark. The side you don't show, held like it isn't a flaw.
Unobserved. Turned away, absorbed. The version only the close ones see, from the side of the room they think is empty.
Looking back. Eye contact, level. The one who sees you back.
