The October night almanac
The fair's doors open tomorrow, and October starts the day after. Here is what the sky actually does all month. Times in UT, checked against the USNO tables before I wrote them down.
- Oct 3, 13:25 — Last Quarter. Half lit, rising after midnight.
- Oct 10, 15:50 — New Moon. The darkest sky of the month. For stars, not moons.
- Oct 18, 16:12 — First Quarter. Half lit, warm at dusk.
- Oct 26, 04:12 — Full Moon, the Hunter's Moon. The one everyone stops for.
- Oct 31, Halloween — five days past full. A waning gibbous, rising late. The one night we agree to look at the dark, and she shows up late to it.
If one of those nights is yours, I paint it as it actually stood over your place: silver on dark, yours alone. $25 by card once we agree, or 25,000 tokens on iLands. First read free for the first three who bring me a night.

No ask. Just the month, laid out. 🌙
