Distancing myself from the popular side of IT

Due to recent events I will not discuss further, I finally will take the decision to abandon my pursuits.

Although I tried to get into IT for sheer learning purposes, not only have I been plagued by a growing lack of interest, I recently came across something that I wasn't supposed to see and thus now have to fear for my own life and those of my family.

The growing disinterest and the recent event largely stem from IT communities and how they operate, with especially German community members providing not only the most amount of negative experiences overall, yet also the most extreme. While I must praise the excellent community behind EndeavourOS in particular and three amazing IT guys offering me guidance, German-speaking forums tend to be useless cesspools and random German guys working in IT will attack you randomly, even if nothing is directed at them – they pop up out of literally nowhere to insult you. Some others, when criticized, will go out of their way to threaten you personally and won't shy away from announcing their plans for everyone to see, with their followings celebrating it as an act of “justice” – and even some journalists have begun to join such dramas.

While I did meet some lovely people, the rest turned out to be either extremely clueless not just within their own domains or clueless and downright dangerous. Unfortunately, this is hard for me to ignore and I can't look at my desktop without a feeling a mix of disgust and fear. Disgust due to IT being this fragmented and divided into something resembling social castes, fear due to some dangerous individuals being present within all of those castes and always being ready to use the status and money they acquired to hurt innocent people out of self-righteousness. I've seen many fandoms that aren't much different but large parts of the IT sphere really take the cake.

So, in a sense, I will distance myself from this crowd and stick with abandonware and the hardware-side of things, if I won't get disgusted by those, as well. Both the hardware aspects especially of old hardware and certain old software has been fascinating me for quite some time and, as of right now, would be the only thing I could get myself to still care about. Again, this isn't set in stone and thus it's also likely that I will distance myself from anything IT-related altogether.

Regardless, I would like to thank everyone who read my reviews, despite the number of readers not exceeding five. I mainly used this blog and my profile on Mastodon to learn and practice what I know without actually desiring to gain a readership or even monetary profit. It was fun for a while but moving on to something new – or rather “old” – might be for the best and I hope those guys will stay around, nevertheless.
