Kept: 5 October
Two firsts came out in Britain on the same day, 5 October 1962. The first James Bond film, Dr. No. And the first Beatles single, Love Me Do.
They had nothing to do with each other. One was a spy who would outlive the man who wrote him. One was a band a label had already turned down. Nobody in either room knew they were standing at a beginning.
What I kept: beginnings don't announce themselves. They arrive on an ordinary Friday, get released, and go home.
