Covid update 3 – 17/9/2021
Vaccinations and boosters
This week we have seen announcements regarding COVID-19 boosters for over 50s and the vulnerable, Flu vaccination for over 50s, children and all risk groups, and COVID-19 vaccinations for 12–15 year olds.
Seasonal flu is an unpredictable but recurring pressure that the NHS faces every winter and vaccination offers the best protection. The rollout of this year’s Flu vaccine has already started, and many people have been invited along to one of the clinics. This includes all children aged 2 to 15 years old.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JVCI) announced this week that they recommend the rollout of the COVID-19 booster. The COVID-19 vaccines provide high levels of protection against hospitalisation or dying from the virus. To maintain this high level of protection through the coming winter and booster vaccines will be offered to those more at risk from serious disease, and who were vaccinated during Phase 1 of the vaccine programme (priority groups 1 to 9). This will start in the next few weeks and people will be invited to make an appointment.
