STEM Write up 9/12/2023
We had a good mix of things happening today. We had a few demos of various projects. In all, it was a busy event, attended by about 5–7 people.
Vance brought along a large LED display, this is pictured below.

Helen has now also built up the spider bot kit we had donated some time ago. This is now fully working nicely

We also had the line following robot, this, is now built up and working.

We also had a demonstration of an IP Webcam.

We are going to try and make more use of the Lego WeDo. This is one of the models from the Kit the library was given, before lock down. This was going to be used as part of an interschool contest.

We are also trying to build more cars, similar to the one that has been built by one of the younger attendees, so we want to make an improved version. We just need to figure out what parts we need.

So, this project may be ongoing for a while. As for the laptop we tried to fix at code club, we can't do much more, so we are going to send back. We had a go, just could not get it fully apart.
We will be back in Jan 2024. The last code club for 2023 is Saturday 16th December.
The Linux Foundation | edX
I decided to have a look at what Linux related courses were on offer from EdX, a few years ago they did a Linux 101. These courses are presented in partnership with the Linux Foundation
They now have quite a few courses on offer, which can be seen from this list
So there is are a good few courses on offer, perhaps if anyone is interested we can set up a Torbay and area study group, perhaps come along to the STEM group at Paignton Library.
It may be something we can do alongside Lecutrify learning as this could be another means of support.
Feel free to chat on IRC, I am generally on Libera.chat and IRC NOW as zleap. There is a link to the IRC NOW chat room on the Lecturify page of this blog (please see top links]
If you want to learn something else, then EDX has a full list of courses here

There is so much, we still don't know about human history, this sort of thing probably makes sense if you consider what some evidence suggests these civilisations were capable of.

LanguageTool
I have found an excellent plugin for Mozilla Firefox that helps users check entered text for grammar, spelling errors as well as assisting with paraphrasing text.
LanguageTool is free and can be installed from within the browser extensions tool.

This plug in can work with a very large number of websites and helps me ensure that my posts are as error free as possible.
So when typing, the tool monitors your text for errors, flags these up and allows you to click and make changes. It can also spot errors in grammar, such as not using correct punctuation. It's an excellent tool.
The above paragraph was typed with the help of the tool. The video below illustrates how it can be used.
Langtool also seems to integrate and work with Overleaf, the online LaTeX editor really nicely.

Some of the larger breadboards have power rails that may not be connected, or you may want to put 2 normal size breadboards side by side and clip them together.
In this instance, it is useful to bridge the two sections or boards so the power rails run the full length.

The above illustrates how to do this.

Trojans Training 3/12/2023 Write up
Torbay Trojans Training
Despite the low numbers, we had a good session. After the usual warm up and footwork drill, a good portion of the session was focussed on O-line routes, this went really well. Session finished with some 2v2.
Next session : December 10th
