Fediverse Presentation.
This is early work in progress. A few years ago, I made a presentation to help promote Mastodon social network. As this is part of the Fediverse, it is much preferred to refer to the Fediverse rather than individual services that make it up so I have created a new presentation to focus on explaining what the Fediverse is.
I can't cover all the services, but have mentioned the services I am using.
It is in open document format, or in this case LibreOffice Impress (.odp), and also in Portable Document Format (.pdf).
Hopefully it is of interest and of use, feel free to modify to your needs.
If you want the old Mastodon Presentation then it can be found on Salsa gitlan here

Every Author as First Author
This looks like a great idea
We propose a new standard for writing author names on papers and in bibliographies, which places every author as a first author -- superimposed. This approach enables authors to write papers as true equals, without any advantage given to whoever's name happens to come first alphabetically (for example). We develop the technology for implementing this standard in LaTeX, BibTeX, and HTML; show several examples; and discuss further advantages.

Code Club – Compute-IT
The next Paignton Library code club is on Saturday 20th May 2023 10 am to 12:00. We can carry on with what we are doing,
You may have noticed a link to compute-it added to the list of websites, if you're not sure what this is I have put a brief description below. Some of the young people attending both code club and stem group have used it
Compute IT consists of puzzles where you need to follow the instructions presented in the code displayed on the screen, This stars out simple and gets more complex or involved as you go.`

I have added a video to my peertube resources to illustrate.

The next Paignton Library code club is on Saturday 20th May 2023 10 am to 12:00. We will carry on with with the Python activities, unless you are following the Scratch or other projects.
The next project in Python is Rocket launch which I had a go at during Saturdays STEM Group meeting. To find the projects, please follow code club link and click projects.

If you also sign up to the Raspberry Pi foundation, you can track progress and collect badges. This is optional, as this presents more ways for data to be collected.
As before if you would like to save work, please sign up for a scratch or Trinket account so you can save project progress and carry on at home or at the next session.
Due to it being the Airshow, the next Code Club won't take place until 17th June, but the STEM Group will run as normal on the 10th June.
Paignton Library STEM Group – May 2023 Write up
So at the STEM group today, we carried on from last weeks code club Python coding. After completing the hello project we moved on to the Target practice which we completed successfully.
We also had discussions around Arduino, AI,. Open Computer vision and using AI tools such as ChatGPT to help with coding. Also had a look at the Raspberry Pi.
Next week is the usual code club on the 20th May. After which the next STEM group meeting will be on the 10th June.
There is no code club on the 3rd June as I am pitch marking, it is also the Torbay Airshow
To find the projects, please follow code club link and click projects.
Links and info
If you would like to save work / progress you ideally need accounts on the Trinket and Scratch websites. These need to be set up, and the login details brought with you to the session.
We also had a discussion on computer vision, there is a project about this here that may be useful.

Spacetime: real and physical, or a calculational tool?
Interesting article about Space-time. This was posted to the fediverse on the StartsWithABang @[email protected]
This is interesting, even if it may be hard to get your head round it sometimes. There is an activity we could try and do at the STEM group that will demonstrate the warping of space around a mass. This isn't complex to do, just needs the right materials.
As always we can discuss on Science forums or on the Fediverse.
