Microbes found to destroy certain 'forever chemicals'

The subject of 'so called' forever chemicals hit the headlines from time to time, new research indicates that microbes can perhaps play a part in how to deal with these, other than trying to not produce them in the first place of course.

You can read the article on Science Daily. A direct link can be found here

There is also a related article on dealing with Forever chemicals here

Paignton Library Coding Club

While the refurbishment of the IT learning centre at Paignton Library is still underway, there is no harm in promoting the group, so when it starts we should have a good cohort to take part.

coding club 2024

Please get in touch with Paignton Library for more information.

The library are looking for a club leader, this is really important as I have stepped down and myself and Helen are happy to help but NOT lead the group.

Tinkerers Meeting 4

The next meeting of the Tor bay Tinkerers group will be on 24th August 2024. Please see their website for more details and a write-up of the May Meeting.

We meet at:-

Updating Mastodon Presentation

Intro

I last updated my Mastodon Presentation in 2020, I have been working on a new version using Overleaf and the LaTeX typesetting system.

I have tried to make sure it is clear what both the Fediverse is, what Mastodon is and how Mastodon fits within the Fediverse.

The old version, written in LibreOffice Inpress is here.

The new version is here

New version uses

  • Overleaf Online editor
  • LaTex + Beamer
  • External assets e.g graphics
  • main.tex

You can clone this in the usual way

git clone https://salsa.debian.org/zleap-guest/mastodonpresentation2024

I am still not very good at using git, and there is little in the way of support within Torbay at the moment.

License

Work released under creative commons. Please feel free to clone and fork so it works for you and how you would like to promote Fedi and Mastodon.

CyberSec Hacking courses

Just reposting this, you may need to request info on when the next set of courses start.

One of the advantages of being on the Fediverse is you interact with a really wide group of people. You also get to find out about interesting things going on. With Cybersecurity being a really hot topic at present with a real demand for skills, then Black Hat Spring Trainings 2024 | Registration may be of interest. This course will take place in the USA, but you only have until early January 2024 to sign up.

Thanks to Black Hat Events for posting this.

Closer to home and if you can't make the above then the course offered via EdX may be of interest IBM: Cybersecurity Basics | edX

There is also a course at the University of Birmingham * University of Birmingham: Applied Cyber Security Boot Camp

I have posted a list of other courses offered by EdX in collaboration with the Linux Foundation in an earlier post.
