SplitVT
Virtual Terminal Splitter
One of the advantages of having good books on GNU / Linux, especially the command line, is the small gems you find out about.
For many people, the screen and or tmux commands are the 'go to' if users want to split a terminal window or console in to sections. This allows one screen to display several things at the same time.
The command 'splitvt' does just this, simply splits the screen horizontally so there is a top and bottom window. To switch between the sections users can use ctrl-w. To exit, type exit in each of the windows, and you return back to your normal terminal or console.
Granted, this lacks the many features that the other two offer, but sometimes this doesn't really matter. I still recommand learning tmux or screen.
If you want to learn more about this, please feel free to chat on the Tuxiversity IRC channel. We are still working on the main site but the chat works.
