Lockdown Rules : What can still happen

What can still happen during this lockdown?

During lockdown, it is necessary to reduce the number of social contacts we have. We can still leave our homes for communal worship and life events.

Weddings, civil partnership ceremonies and funerals can take place. There are, however, limits on the number of people who can attend and venues must be COVID-19 secure.

Funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people. This limit does not include the people working at the event. The important piece of information to share in your networks is that social distancing must be maintained between anyone who is not in a household or support bubble. Unfortunately, any gatherings after a service are not permitted as these events must be held in COVID-19 secure premises.

More Covid 19 updates

Staying healthy in lockdown

We know that lockdown is extremely challenging, and can be very difficult for people’s mental health. Mental wellbeing is so important and we are asking our champions to support your networks to protect their health and wellbeing as much as possible.

Please can you share the following resources with your networks so that they can access mental health and wellbeing support if and when they need it.

The website healthwatchtorbay.org.uk has information about local mental health services for issues such as anxiety and depression, and details of helplines, phone apps and self-care tools. Local GPs are an extremely useful source of support and can advise on treatments and how to access mental health services. The Mental Health Matters Devon Helpline provides 24/7 mental health help on 0800 4700317. MIND provides emotional and listening support to anyone experiencing mental distress, their carers, relatives and friends 0300 123 3393 (Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm) or visit mind.org.uk

It is also important to stay physically active during lockdown. You are allowed to leave your house to exercise once a day. Please emphasise the importance of regular physical activity to your networks, and remind them that they can exercise with their household or support bubble or, if alone, one other person from another household.

Torbay COVID 19 update 31/12/2020

Torbay, Devon, UK, has now moved into Tier 3, this means that we are on very high alert.

Remember to :-

  • Wash hands, Cover Face, Make Space

Current coronavirus restrictions in Torbay

We must act to control the spread of the virus. When we reduce our day-to-day contact with other people, we reduce the spread of the virus.

  • Only socialise indoors with people you live with, or who are in your support bubble.
  • If you meet up with others outdoors, keep to groups of six or fewer, and make space – keep 2 metres apart if possible.
  • Whatever you’re doing, think COVID and think hands, face, space.

  • If you think you have the symptoms – please book a test and self-isolate.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 you need to self-isolate immediately, alongside anyone you live with, and book a free test. Only the person who has symptoms needs to take a test.

Torbay Tier 2 restrictions 9/12/2020

To help you do this, we have summarised the Tier 2 restrictions below.

  • You must not socialise with anyone who you do not live with indoors, unless you are in a support bubble. (see further down this briefing to learn more about bubbles). Outdoors, up to six people can socialise – this is called the 'rule of six'.
  • Businesses and venues can continue to operate in a COVID-secure manner, unless closed by law. (Find out what COVID-Secure means on gov.uk)
  • Pubs and bars may only open if serving as restaurants. Hospitality venues may serve alcohol with food. Early closure applies to many venues.
  • People can attend spectator sport and indoor performances but there are limits on how many can attend. For example, Torquay United will be welcoming Gulls fans again this Saturday, and have asked them to follow their code of conduct.
  • Places of worship may open but whilst there you should only socialise with people you live with or who are in a support bubble with you.
  • Weddings and funerals can go ahead but with restrictions on how many people can attend. (Check what the restrictions are on gov.uk)

For more information, you can read the full details of the restrictions for tier 2 on the main gov.uk website and you can check what current restrictions apply in Torbay on our own website. NHS Website

Malaria Treatment

Even though we are in a global Covid 19 pandemic, it does not mean other important discoveries are not being made.

The BBC reported on May 4th that a microbe has been found that can block Malaria [1]. This is an important discovery, as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) article [2] suggests that Malaria killed 405,000 people i 2018.

Discoveries such as this, surely give the world hope that a treatment for Covid-19 will eventually be found. It also highlights the importance of research and proper funding for research.
