Code Club Electronics 3
Now let's add a switch, so we can turn our LED on and off.
Depending on the type of switch you use, you may have to experiment with which in to connect. It should work as illustrated.

If you have a reed switch, you can try one too, and use a magnet to activate the switch.

An LED is like a bulb, but one way, the short lead goes towards the ground. As long as the resistor is in series, it can be before or after the LED.

Code Club Electronics 2
So now we have a powered breadboard, disconnect the power (important) and connect up a LED (Light Emitting Diode) and a resistor in SERIES.

An LED is like a bulb, but one way, the short lead goes towards the ground. As long as the resistor is in series, it can be before or after the LED.
NOTE ABOUT COMPONENTS
- Resistor value should be fine at 220 ohms or even 330 ohms if supply is 3V.
- The switch needs to be wired up properly, diagram is a guide, it depends on the switch you use.
- Experimentation is key
- If you require help, please ask an adult.

Code Club Electronics 1
As we are undertaking varied projects at Code Club, I am going to put together a guide on creating some simple circuits.
I have a few breadboard power supplies that connect to a breadboard as illustrated below.

The following video, illustrates how to create the diagram in Fritzing but if you follow the layout you can produce the same circuit with a breadboard and components.
I have embedded a video below.
The idea here is, that followers can both use software and real components to build up software, being able to plan where components are to go, can be really useful.
Note the orientation of the PSU so that the +v and gnd pins are also matching the rows for +v and gnd (red / blue)
Also note that the PSU as +v in and can produce either 3v or 5v, any circuits MUST be given the correct voltage as this will determine values of resistors used.

Code Club 25/11/2023 Write up
We had a busy session today. As you can see from the photo, we did more work on the netbooks.

We were also doing more Scratch and some HTML / CSS.
I have added more links below to try and reflect our current set of activities.
I was also helping another attendee with electronics, even though I think what he wants to do is a little complex for the resources available and requires more engineering and or electronics knowledge.
As well as the above, Helen from the STEM group was working on getting the line following robot working and also getting the Lego WeDo working, so we now have a small Lego robot that can detect obstacles, as well as a basic Lego Windmill, which we can look at this during the next STEM group meeting on the 9th December.
Next Code Club
The next code club is on 2/12/2023

CanSat Contest
The UK CanSat Competition 2023/24 is open for registration. Don’t miss out on your chance to enter, the deadline is the 17th of October 2023.
CanSat provides students with the opportunity to have practical experience working on a small-scale space project. Students (14+) can enter the CanSat competition and design their own satellite simulation in a soft drink can.
Note: *The above text is taken from the all about stem website. I am just reproducing here for the purpose of promoting the contest.

STEM Group intro video
I made a quick intro video to try and explain what we are about a little more. Hopefully the sound is OK, it may need turning up.

Code Club – Compute-IT
The next Paignton Library code club is on Saturday 20th May 2023 10 am to 12:00. We can carry on with what we are doing,
You may have noticed a link to compute-it added to the list of websites, if you're not sure what this is I have put a brief description below. Some of the young people attending both code club and stem group have used it
Compute IT consists of puzzles where you need to follow the instructions presented in the code displayed on the screen, This stars out simple and gets more complex or involved as you go.`

I have added a video to my peertube resources to illustrate.

As Roblox is very popular and allows you to develop within the game the following may be useful.
Note you need your own laptop with this installed so you can develop Lua projects for Robox. You can use Replit to learn Lua but need an account.
GNU / Linux BASH
This is something that once mastered can be very beneficial
Python
Web Site Creation

Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla
The Coronation takes place at 11am so will clash with Code Club. Details on the broadcast can be found here
Code Club 15/4/2023
The next Paignton Library code club is on Saturday 15th April 2023 10 am to 12:00. We can carry on with what we are doing, new members welcome as there are resources for beginners to more experienced user.
I have included a link to the GNU/Linux command line BASH shell tutorials,
If you would like to start undertaking more with Python, we have 4 copies of the Python for beginners book on the shelf, and there is a copy in the Library which can be borrowed. The Pis and laptops / netbooks do have Python installed. But it may just be easier to get a Repl.it account
Going further, the two laptops I gave out on the 7th have the GoDot game engine installed, this is for creating more advanced games, the main language for this is GD Script.
For those of you working on Responsive web design then this seems to be going really well.
There are also some contests you can get involved with, some of these are listed below.
