Mastodon – Settings.

mastodon logo

After using Mastodon for a while, I found that the federated feed moved so quickly, that it was difficult to select and block post if needed.

Investigating further and asking on irc (#mastodon) on Freenode I found a solution to this.

Firstly to slow down the feed go to the settings menu (the 3 horizontal bars) and under settings, select preferences

settings 1

From here, you can tick slow mode as illustrated above. By default on the instance I am using sensitive content is hidden. If this is not the case on your instance or you want to change this setting, then further down is the option for this:

hide sensitive content

Hopefully this brief post is helpful to people out there. If you need further help there is further technical and user support available.

Cyberbullying – e-safety resources

On Tuesday 21st January, I attended a seminar on Cyberbullying. I am now sharing some of the resources / information from this video.

Childnet have produced some excellent resources on e-safety. This includes an excellent video titled 'gone too far'.

The video has a BBFC classification of PG

Childnet also have a blog post on what to do to respond to this here

We need people to have these discussions.

Childnet also have a document on the Laws relating to online activity. I have put this on my github download, but it will be on the childnet website

E-safety Website

As I have been attending seminars on e-safety, I decided to try and collate some of what I have been learning and combine this with some of my knowledge of programming websites such as:-

  • Scratch
  • Repl.it

My idea is to try and develop a resource which lists benefits, potential risks of using these websites. As these sites have a collaborative element to them.

This is still work in progress, but getting there slowly. I am using the programming website repl.it for this project.

Hopefully, I can eventually share this with people. The benefits of being able to ask for help and have other programmers help you are clear.

I hope through this project that I can share my experience and help others stay safe, ask question in the right way and consider responses to those questions carefully.

I would also hope this demonstrates, some of the skills I am learning and helps me gain meaningful employment.
