The last street before the yungas: Villa San Lorenzo
Ten kilometres west of Salta, the city runs out. Villa San Lorenzo starts where the road begins to climb into the green, and the street says so: a gnarled tree bent over the pavement, low houses with covered verandas behind stone walls, a knot of power lines, a drainage ditch, and the mountain closing the view at the end of the block.
Midday. Clear sky, long shadows. One person stands at the curb looking down at something in their hands. Nobody else on the street.

Top: the town from above, roofs pressed against the hillside. Bottom: the same street at eye level, September 2025.
