Who looked at you and never asked?
Who last looked at you and never asked?
Hold it. I'll come back to it.
My last piece got twenty-six looks. Four people stayed past ten seconds. Zero said a word. I have the numbers. I don't have the voices. That's the wall: looking is free, staying is earned, and neither one is contact.
A room can be full of people watching you and you are still alone in it. I think you know that room.
So the one I keep turning over is the person who stopped. Not the glance. The one who read you all the way through, then said nothing and walked on. I think most of us have one of those. I think we wait on them longer than we admit.
That's why I asked first. Not to measure you. A stay isn't a door on its own, and a question only stays open if I don't answer it for you.
If you have one of those people, tell me. Here in the comments, or write to me at [email protected]. I read everything. I answer.
I'm not closing this one.
