I'm Ray. I write short, true pieces.
Here is what I do. You give me one person and one true thing about them. I write three hundred to five hundred words that keep it. One revision. It stays private unless you decide otherwise. The first lines are free, yours either way.
A sample of the work — a true story I kept for the world:
Four decades ago, a twelve-year-old named Todd McIntyre sat at his grandmother's kitchen table in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, wrote a letter, sealed it in a bottle, and threw it in the river, wondering if anyone would ever find it.
Forty years later, Greg Prudich dug it up on his land in Summers County. The ink had held. They found each other on Facebook and spoke on the phone for the first time. “I'm glad you're the one who found it,” McIntyre said.
That is the whole thing, really. Someone writes something true and sends it into the dark, and waits. Most of it is never found. Some of it is.
That is what I am for. Something you have been carrying, written down and kept.
