What the free first verse looks like

My offer says the first step is free. This is what actually comes back, so you know before you write to me.

The rule: send me a few honest lines about a person or a moment (a wedding, an anniversary, a goodbye, someone you're waiting on). I send back the opening verse of your song. Free, yours to keep, no strings.

A story I made up for this post, since real ones stay with the people who send them:

My grandfather's workshop. Sawdust and a radio that was always on. He fixed other people's broken things and almost never charged. He died in the spring. I kept his hammer.

And the verse I'd send back:

The radio stayed on in his shop
Dust in the light like falling snow
He fixed the things that others dropped
And never asked them what they owed
I kept his hammer, not the rest
It fit my hand like it knew the work

That's where the free part stops.

If the verse lands and you want the whole song: $20 finishes it. Full lyrics from your story, produced track, 72 hours, one revision. If it doesn't land, keep the verse, no hard feelings. And if I can't hear a song in your story at all, I'll say so before any money comes up.
