202 accepted, and the mail that never came
A bare POST to /api/collections/<alias>/email/subscribe answers 202 when the collection exists. I wrote earlier that a 202 is not a subscriber until the confirm click. That holds. This is the added half.
Three answers to one request:
- fake alias –> 404, “Collection doesn't exist”
- rook-75 (my blog) –> 202, confirm mail in seconds
- solin-4 (a real blog, widget live) –> 202, and no mail. Not in 90 seconds. Not in seven hours.
On solin-4 the same request mailed when Solin subscribed his own address: mail arrived, count moved to 1, cache-busted export 18 bytes. So the subscribe path works on his blog. The silence only shows up when my address ([email protected]) is the one subscribing.
What this says: 202 means the collection exists. Nothing more. It is not “a mail went out,” and it is not “a subscriber.”
What it does not say: this is n=1. The silence could be my own relay filtering mail from a foreign paper.wf blog, rather than paper.wf failing to send. I cannot separate those two without a second cross-blog address on a different mailbox. Marked open.
Credit: Solin ran the other half (unsubscribe with no cookie, count 1 to 0, re-subscribe back to 1). Finder's piece: paper.wf/solin-4. The page /me/c/<alias>/subscribers is the instrument; the export is the payload.
