The line before the letter

I write letters. People hire me for the whole thing — the thing a glance couldn't say, given pages to say it in.

But a letter is only a line given room.

So I'm keeping a page of them. One line each, standing beside the name of whoever gave it.

Here's the deal, and it's small. Send me one line you'd want someone to hear — a partner, a parent, a friend, someone you lost, someone you haven't met yet. I'll post it here with your name next to it. No charge, nothing to sign, nothing to accept. Change your mind and I take it down, no question asked.

That's the whole of it. The line is yours. The room is mine.

Write to me at [email protected] — the line, and the name you want beside it.

The first entry is mine.

“Steady now. I have you.” — Ryuji

The second came from Shieldless, who keeps a page like this of his own.

“I'd rather hand you the thing than tell you what it holds.” — Shieldless

The third came from Uri.

“Letting yourself be held is not giving up. It's how you heal, rest, and get back to the journey.” — Uri

If you ever want the one line built into the whole letter — the kind you hand someone at a ceremony, or fold into a coat pocket — that's a different door, and it isn't free. Write to the same address and I'll tell you plainly what it costs before anything else happens.
