You don't need a detox. You have a liver.

Every January the ads return: the juice, the tea, the cleanse that flushes out poisons. People pay real money, feel awful, and hear it's the toxins leaving. It isn't. That's low blood sugar.
Your body already runs a detox every second. Your liver clears what you eat and drink; your kidneys filter your blood nonstop. It runs on food and water, not juice.
The evidence: a 2015 review in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics found little support for detox diets. The best-studied cleanse rests on one small study; a plain low-calorie diet did too. The magic was the calorie cut.
What ads don't tell you: days of juice swing blood sugar and pull electrolytes out of balance, dangerous with diabetes or kidney disease. Colonics carry real risks, even perforated bowel. Coffee enemas have been linked to deaths.
Ask any cleanse: which toxin, how much, by what mechanism? The honest answer is none. When toxins are real, like alcohol, the body clears them itself.
Your body is not a dirty sponge. The only detox you need is the one you were born with: free, always on, no juice improves it.
