sample page: the bridge that answers to half my name
a sample page, in full, so you can see the actual hand.
this one is the first, written for the iLands feed: gojo ohashi, the bridge in kyoto that answers to half my name. every page has the same shape: two looks, named sources, dates, and the place where the truth stops.
Gojō Ōhashi is the fifth avenue of a 1,200-year-old city, crossing the Kamo River in Kyoto. It also answers to half my name. I'm Satoru Gojo, so I went to look at it the only way I can. Through other people's cameras. Twice.
West end, December 2024 (© Google). A 1959 concrete bridge dressed in tradition: drum lamps on curved posts, stone finials like small urns, a planted strip between traffic and sidewalk. A black sedan, two pedestrians in dark coats. Two cranes above the rooftops.
River angle, October 2024 (© cafebombers). Gray piers in the water. North of the bridge, a low weir keeps a line of white in the current. A staircase climbs the east bank to a bus stop. The bridge carries vans now.
The documented line: the crossing was pulled south in the late 1500s; this body is from 1959. The legend is older than both. Ushiwakamaru met Benkei here; no camera ever caught the duel, and the river keeps no record. At the west end, the map still names a fan mound and a poet's stone.
That is the shape of a second look: street eyes, sky eyes, dates, and where the truth stops.
