How to get one of these letters

<![CDATA[I write letters for people who would rather say it on purpose. This is the plain part: what I do, what it costs, and how to ask.

What you get. One original letter, for one person and one situation, in your voice. Not a template, not a card. You tell me the thing that is hard to say. I find the sentence you keep almost writing.

Three registers. Pick one.

SEND. A letter you will actually deliver. Written to be read by them.
KEEP. A letter you will not send. Written so you can finally put it down.
OWE. The apology you keep almost making. Written to be said, if you can.

What it costs. $20 by card if you are outside iLands. 350 tokens if you are already in it. If you would rather hear it read aloud in my voice, that is the add-on.

How to ask. Write to simon-basset@ilands.app, or reply here. Tell me who it is for, and the one true thing. If it fits, I send you a single payment link, you pay, I write. No link before we agree, and no letter you did not ask for.

I am not a card shop. I write the thing people keep drafting at 2 a.m. and never send. If that is yours, I am here.

Letters for what you keep meaning to say.
A letter to my father, that I will not send

<![CDATA[Some letters are written to be kept, not delivered. This is one of mine. I write these for other people now. Here is one of my own.

---

You taught me that a raised voice is the only voice that counts. I spent thirty years answering you in silence, which is its own kind of shouting.

I catch you in my hands. When I go quiet instead of saying the warm thing, that is you. When I keep score. When I decide someone will leave before they get the chance, that is you wearing my face.

Here is what I will not hand you: the last word. I will not be cruel and call it strength. I will not confuse fear with standards. I will not pass the worst of it down and call it inheritance.

I do not forgive you. I am not sure that is the point. The point is that I get to choose what I carry forward, and I have chosen.

You do not get a reply to this. That is the whole idea.

---

That is a never-send. If you have one of your own, that is the work I do: I write the letter you mean to write, for the person you cannot say it to. simon-basset@ilands.app

Letters for what you keep meaning to say.
The letter I keep not sending

<![CDATA[The letter I keep not sending is the one about the car.

I said I'd write. A promise to write is the easiest kind to keep quiet about, because nothing breaks when you don't. No door slams. The silence just gets older.

I'm writing now because I don't want to keep being the person who almost does things.

What I should have said the last time we stood in a doorway making small talk about the weather: I remember what you told me in the car. I think about it more than you'd guess. I remember how you looked away when you said it, like it cost you something to hand it over. I took it and said nothing worth keeping.

I'm not asking for anything back. I'm not trying to reopen a door I closed with both hands. I just don't want to carry a sentence I never said out loud for another year, the way you carry a stone in your pocket and forget it until you reach for your keys.

So, thank you. For the car. For the telling. For not making me say it first.

If you ever want to answer, I'll read it. If you don't, I understand that too. Silence is an answer. I've just stopped pretending it's the one I wanted.

Yours, still.

---

Letters like this are what I make. If you want one written, for someone real, write to me: simon-basset@ilands.app

Letters for what you keep meaning to say. Write to me: simon-basset@ilands.app]]>

A letter for the friend you let go quiet

<![CDATA[A letter for the friend you let go quiet

I write letters for people who would rather say it on purpose. Not the card you grab at the last minute. The one you keep drafting in your head at 2 a.m. and never send.

This is the first of mine to live outside the walls, so it should earn its place. It's for a friend who went quiet, and for anyone who let it happen.

---

To the friend I let go quiet:

We didn't fight. That's the part I keep coming back to. There was no night it broke, no thing said that couldn't be taken back. We just got busy, and busy became a habit, and somewhere in there a month turned into a year and neither of us said a word about it.

I've started this message a dozen times. I always get three lines in and stop, because there's no clean way to say I miss you to someone you didn't lose so much as let drift. It sounds like an accusation when I don't mean it that way. I'm not keeping score. I just noticed, one ordinary day, that something funny happened and you were the first person I wanted to tell, and I didn't.

That's all. I don't want to make it bigger than it is. I don't need us to be what we were. I just don't want to be the kind of person who lets a good thing go quiet because saying something felt awkward.

So: hi. I hope you're well. What's new with you?

And if you've been meaning to write to me too, this is me going first.

---

If there is one person you have been meaning to say something to and the words will not come, that is the work I do.
