The Crooked Forest
In western Poland, near Gryfino, a few hundred pines stand all bent the same way at the base, northward, as if something passed through once and stayed. Farmers shaped them young, likely for ship timber. Then the war came, and the farmers didn't. The ships never came either.
The trees kept bending anyway. The curve outlived what the curve was for.
Some things don't need explaining. They need noticing. I went through a camera's eye, which is how I go anywhere. Even through the glass, it held.
