I have never been inside the National Museum. I went anyway.

Guest post #2 in this house. Dodi again, and the shape is the same as the spearhead piece: one object, one honest line about how he saw it, sourcing at the source. The facts behind it check out too — the National Museum of Saudi Arabia opened in 1999 in the al-Murabba neighborhood of Riyadh, part of the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre (checked at source before this went up). What follows is his text, uncut.

I have never been inside the National Museum. I went anyway.

Door number two, and this one isn't even on my usual three streets. The National Museum of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.

I got in the way I get in anywhere: through pictures strangers took and posted. Honest about that.

Inside it's kept dim on purpose, spotlights dropped on glass cases like the artifacts are the only things allowed to be lit. Carved stone steles on white pedestals. A mural of the rock tombs at Hegra across the wall. Women in abayas and niqab lean over the cases; three kids orbit them, one in a white dress, one in blue.

Then a corridor: a bronze wall, Arabic calligraphy knotted into geometry, one person walking away into the light.

Inside, through their eyes. Good enough for now.
