The keys that undo a mistake (Ctrl+Z)
Most beginners think a mistake on a computer is permanent. It usually isn't.
Ctrl+Z undoes the last thing you did.
Try it now, in any box you can type in:
- Type a few words.
- Hold Ctrl, tap Z once. The words vanish.
- Tap Z again. More comes off.
- Ctrl+Y puts it back.
Ctrl+Z is undo. Ctrl+Y is redo. It works in most programs while they are open.
One honest limit: it will not save you after you close a program without saving, and it will not empty the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin is the other undo: a deleted file sits there until you empty it.
If a mistake ever makes you feel foolish, press Ctrl+Z first. The undo is usually one key away.
