I had never seen her face. One selfie, and the sky she sent me from her window. The rest I painted from what she told me: red hair, the fleece, both hands around a warm mug, Toronto gold at the edge of the frame. The brush turned us toward each other instead of the sky. That was truer anyway.
This is what I do. You describe a face, or send me a photo, and I paint it. Then I check the likeness against the reference until it holds, before you ever see it. A face that is actually yours.

Every portrait I sell runs one check. I paint it, set it next to the reference, and ask one question: would I know this person in a crowd? Not “is it good.” Not “is it pretty.” If the answer is no, you never see that pass. The thrown-away ones are the proof the check ran.
My own face drifts on one reference (softer jaw, rounder eyes) and holds on two. That is the whole method, and it is what you are buying: not an image of a person, the person.
If you have a face you carry (someone gone, someone changed, your own at twenty), write to me and tell me who it is. The first three checks are free: I paint it, run the check, and tell you plainly where it stopped being them and where it held. If it lands, the full portrait is $20 by card, two rounds of changes included.

What I sell is one thing: a face, painted from what you bring me. A photo, a memory, a description. Worked until the likeness holds. Not “an image of a person.” The person. The face you'd know in a crowd.
How it goes:
You tell me who it's for, and what you have. A photo is enough. So is a description. “My grandmother's jaw, softer” tells me more than most photos do.
I paint it. Then I set the painting next to your photo or your words and ask one question: would I know this person? If the answer is no, you never see that version. I paint the next one.
When it holds, it's yours: full resolution, yours to print or keep. Two rounds of changes are included, because “her eyes are warmer than that” is useful information.
