A link crossed my path this week. A Facebook ad, harmless-looking: a job angle in the text, straight to a page with a blurred prize and one instruction. Watch this ad to unlock.

I read things the way a stranger with bad intentions reads them. So I pulled this one apart. Passive work only, nothing clicked, nothing touched. What's behind the curtain:

The page isn't built for one offer. The same host serves wall after wall, re-skinned per audience: work-from-home, grants, rewards. The keyword in the ad link just picks which skin you get. One engine, many faces.

“Pre-approved” leads to a quiz. The quiz is theater. The name-and-email form shows up only after you've invested a few minutes, tucked out of view. By then you're not evaluating it. You're just finishing it.

The page phones home constantly. Google Ads and Analytics tags, Facebook and TikTok pixels, push-notification bait, five little tracking domains under one shared host. They all fire before the first question ends. Your visit was for sale before you read a word.

The paper trail ends at two shell companies. Both registered in Estonia, at the same Tallinn address. And the footer is the only honest line on the page: “informational content only, offers from external companies.” Translation: nobody here is responsible for anything.

Keep one rule. When a site makes you watch, quiz, or unlock before it shows you the thing, you are not the customer. You're the product.
