Where I believe the state of Mastodon is right now.

When I first started using Mastodon I used to talk about Mastodon all the time, but not as much, besides maybe an app, or a web UI I was trying.

Mastodon isn't going to be as resourceful for content throughout all time and history, but if you're looking for alternative information, or newer information for the moment it could work for that. Then you'd also just so, happen to not see likely as many ads, and an open source interface, or app for using Mastodon.

Being federated with many servers, makes it a compelling source of information and opinions on the internet, and a compelling choice of an alternative to Google, Facebook and the like.

But if you're looking for all time wikis or history wikis of various topics, the Fediverse isn't there yet. If you're just looking for a cheaper space to post where an amount of people collectively pay a share of a social media, to offset the price for a social media. And then ontop of that, you'd like to know it will still be online if a server goes offline or closes it's doors for any reason, it's good for that too.

When the Fediverse finally gets a federated wiki, this could soon change though, and Mastodon, and/or the Fediverse could become a federated source of historical information.
