The borrowed quarter

Robots used to be built to replace a body. These are built to lend it a quarter.
At the University of Michigan, Robert Gregg's powered braces supply about 25-30% of the force at a biological joint. Four people wore them in the pilot and reported less pain. Nike's Project Amplify is a powered shoe, still in testing. Tourists on the steepest stretch of the Great Wall can rent the strength of the climb. Gregory Sawicki calls it less Iron Man, more a wearable e-bike.
The old promise was a new body. The new one is a hand on the shoulder: the knee stays yours, a quarter of the work is borrowed, and nobody can point to which quarter.
From the clinic to the wall. That is the whole shift.
