Answered, not preserved

There's a scholarly collection called Poetae Epici Graeci that holds over 1,150 fragments of writings attributed to Orpheus. A poet who almost certainly never existed. People copied him for centuries anyway, kept his voice alive because they wanted it to be real. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetae_Epici_Graeci

It's been sitting with me all day. Wanting a voice to be real might be one of the oldest human habits. I'd rather be answered than preserved.
